Our Story

How it all started...

Bayson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church was organized in 1900. In the late 1800s a group of people moved from the Pine Spring Community.
The first members only means of traveling was by horseback, wagons, buggies, and walking the rough roads. They found it was hard for them to maintain regular attendance; therefore they organized a community prayer service that went from house to house.
The house to house meetings grew rapidly and they had to find a place where they would have enough room for the congregation. They made the choice of an old vacant house just west of the old church site. It was called "Ten Cup Hollow". This worked for a while, however the congregation continued to grow and eventually they needed even more room. The members called a council to discuss formally organizing a church.
After some hard work and planning, the church was organized and held their first service in March 1900, under the diligent leadership of Reverend Aaron Suggs. He became the first pastor of what the council named BAYSON CHAPEL MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH.
In 1955, the old church was torn down from the  old site and relocated to it's present location. This new one room temple was built by several members of the community, some were members of the church and others just wanted to help.  The building was finished in the early part of  1956.  After building the one room, a kitchen, fellowship hall, choir stand and restrooms were added to the structure.
